We successfully raised over £1800!
This is great news - it means we can pay for a well to be built in the early part of 2011!
Here's how we did it:
November 2010
At LPCYouth, we want to see a generation of young people make a difference in their world. This can take many forms such as through our actions, the things we say, our attitudes etc.
We don’t have to look far in the world to see injustice. Basically that means, ‘Something that’s not just or fair’. We can either choose to think, “there’s too much injustice in the world, so why bother?” or we can choose to say,
“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” - Helen Keller
That’s why at LPCYouth, we are launching our ‘Month For Justice’. This is going to be our ‘something’ that we can do.
The plan: To raise money to dig a well that will provide clean, fresh water to a village in Brazil.
How: By raising sponsorship to climb part of the worlds biggest climbing wall. A well is 50 meters deep so the plan is to climb and abseil 50 feet. One foot per metre of well. We will be going to the Ratho Adventure Centre on Monday 22nd November to carry out our challenge, leaving from the church at 6:00pm and returning at around 10:00pm.
Why this project?: Our church has a long-standing connection with the charity ‘EAB’ that works in Brazil. When Katriona Graham passed away, the family wanted to give her estate to help people in the world. She was the only daughter of David and Nora Graham, who attended our church. She had no dependants to leave her estate to so Mr & Mrs Graham (with the help of the church) found 2 causes to donate her estate towards. Today the ‘Katriona M. Graham Learning Centre’ in the Philippines, and ‘The Katriona M. Graham Care Centre’ in Brazil are helping hundreds of people each year, in honour of her memory. The care centre is operated by EAB in Brazil and due to our link; we have decided to do something to help them help more people.
We hope as many of you will get involved to raise sponsorship for such a worthy cause. It costs between £1600 - £2000 to provide a village with a well and WE THINK WITH YOUR HELP WE CAN DO IT.
